Mike Wiegand, Owner and Technical Services
Mike is our team leader. Mike’s experience combines practical “hands on” engineering experience of 35 years with technical training as a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Washington in 1985. He has spent most of the last 23 years involved in commercial marine and pleasure vessel machinery design, repair, failure review and application. Projects have also included mechanical components used in heavy equipment and architectural applications. His experience, training as well as extensive involvement in manufacturing processes combines to add to the practical design philosophy seen in SPS machinery, with an emphasis on improved functionality and minimized down time.
Cliff Burns, Owner/ Board Member
Cliff was working as an elementary school teacher when he started as a part time employee with Seattle’s Coolidge Propeller in 1966. He worked in production, foundry, the finishing shop, and the machine shop,
as well as in sales and engineering. After spending many years assisting the general manager, he retired from teaching and started working full time at Coolidge Propeller. Cliff eventually became an owner and partner in what is now known as Sound Propeller Services. His hands-on training and experience working with vessel operators has helped him to engineer the most practical solutions in propulsion requirements. Cliff has a vast knowledge in propeller sizing, drawing, design, and manufacturing. He is very experienced in computer program design and utilization, profit loss accounting, business plan development and implementation. Since his recent retirement from Sound Propeller Services, he has begun to focus on supporting the crew here at Sound Propeller Systems when needed. Our team here benefits greatly from the professionalism, knowledge, and experience that Cliff is able to provide.
